When it comes to any office-based business, one of the choices that will have to be made is if the new networking equipment is wireless or wired. There are advantages and disadvantages regardless of the one you choose, but understanding it will allow you to make the right decision. Each type has something that the other cannot offer, which is why sometimes combining the two can be the best solution. Here, we will explore this point in more detail.
Benefits and Uses for Wireless Devices
If there is a device on a business network that needs to be moved, then this should instantly be considered a wireless device. One of the main benefits of these devices is that you do not need to have a bunch of wires. Running a bunch of wires around a home office may be dangerous and will probably not comply with health and safety rules. Furthermore, if there is any chance that any children may be near these wires, it is a good idea that you consider going fully wireless.
There are also some disadvantages to using wireless. The main issue with wireless is the strength of the signal. This means that the further away a person moves from their router, the weaker their device will get. Additionally, wireless networks suffer from interference, which means if there are things in your way then this will affect the connection. These networks are also much less secure, and they generally run slower as well.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Wired Networks
While a wireless network offers a much more convenient way to access the network, a wired network has more benefits. The main advantage of this type of network is security. While Wi-Fi networks have boosted their security over the years, they are still much more accessible than wired networks. Furthermore, you will get less interruption and better speeds.
The disadvantages of a wired network are clear. Wires are messy, and you can only take your connection so far on this type of network.
There is an obvious solution to this issue, and this is to wire static items like Cisco Wireless Routers and keep other items like laptops on a wireless network. This means speed won’t be an issue for some products, and you will not have to worry about low security or too many wires as well. Make sure you have a fully planned out office before you start thinking about wired or wireless items.

Thanks for sharing such an interesting information.
I prefer using wireless connection. This is more easier to use aside from having it wireless and instant connection.
One of the disadvantages of wireless is most of the time the process is very slow which
is really a big discouragement for me. That’s why I prefer the wired.
I preferred wireless because, it is easy to move with wireless rite, mostly i had the wireless only.accessories
Personally I use Wird internet connection even though I have a wi-fi connection to. Reason is that the wi-fi network can be used by other people outside my residence. The passwords can be breached and that can be a problem for me . I have shifted by PC to a corner so that wires don’t pose a problem.
I think you have a point. I also choose wired when the network is really hard to reach especially on rainy season.
awesome post as usual
An informational text with useful tips, thanks for sharing it. I just think about to switch to a wireless system, I only am afraid from the costs…
I use both connections on a regular basis, but I just cannot compare the advantages of wireless with the ones of wired. I like the flexibility of wireless connections, as well as not having so many cables and wires in the room.
As you have mentioned it’s a trade off between convenience and security and at the moment convenience is wining by a long margin.
Nice post about wireless and wired, thanks for sharing it………
Hi Robert,
Virtually all my connections anymore are wireless. It’s just much more convenient to be able to move things if you have to. Even things I don’t think I’ll ever have to move always seem to be in the way at some point and dealing with tons of wires not only looks messy, but can be a real pain in the butt too.
