Nokia Lumia 900 To Challenge The Status Quo

So the wait is finally over for those who have for long been intrigued by the rumors and are finally able to get their hands on the long-awaited Nokia Lumia 900. Ever since AT&T had announced the release of Nokia Lumia 900, the Nokia buffs were buzzing with anticipation.

Jeff Bradley, AT&T’s Senior Vice President of Devices, is doing his best to talk up Nokia’s latest launch. In a classic ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’ moment, Mr Bradley stated in his typical no nonsense persona, “At all levels, this (Nokia Lumia 900) is above anything we’ve done.”

This is just what the Nokia fans wanted to hear, as the expectations go soaring towards the sky.

With the price being on the lower side of the $100 mark – $99.99 to be precise – the eye-popping has already begun. This when coupled with the amount of apps on Windows Phone 7 is enough to instigate a train of OMGs among the tech savvy on its own. With a two-year contract, the $99.99 price of the Lumia 900 beats the daylight out of other smart phones, which have been prowling around the $150 to $200 region.

The new phone is available in black, cyan and gloss white colors (April 22 onwards), and is being touted as the start of Nokia’s plunge into the US market – a plunge that carries a huge weight of expectation for the flagship Windows Phone. All eyes are on this 4.3-inch AMOLED device as the mobile world braces itself for a potential shakeup. The phone comes with an 8mb Carl Zeiss rear facing camera and another front facing camera as well. The Lumia 900 carries the burden of not merely turning heads toward itself, but also changing perceptions with regards to a possible switch in loyalty from iOS and Android devices.

The towering number of apps being downloaded on Android or iOS devices puts added pressure on this Windows Phone which is having a tough time keeping pace with the trailblazers. About the line of action regarding expansion, AllThingsD states that “the rollout plan includes a massive television campaign,” and Chris Weber – the president of Nokia in North America – has said, “To re-enter the U.S., we know we have to be aggressive.” It is clear that Nokia – who abandoned its Meego operating system to join Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 – is completely aware of the challenge that lies ahead, and is vying to stamp its authority in the American market.

Moving forward from the initial ‘hang on we need to be cautious’ phase, Nokia pulled out the Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 phones along of course with the Lumia 900. However, the question on the amount of apps in Windows Phone 7 is still there.  The 70,000 apps available on Windows Phone might be a little too late, something that ZDNet has also suggested, despite Microsoft pulling off these numbers faster than Google or Apple.

These are exciting times if you’re an active member of the mobile world. And for those running the show at Nokia and Windows Phone, it’s time to wave your fingernails goodbye.
