A fast loading and speedy website can make a lot of difference on the online presence of your business. Google also gives priority to speedy websites while determining their rankings. Moreover, if your website takes too long to load and response then your visitors are bound to go for some other service provider.

There are many ways to enhance the speed and performance of a website. Mentioned below are some of the most useful tips for speeding up a WordPress website.

  • Use Plugins Wisely:
We all are blessed by some great plugins that enhance the functionality of our websites. However, we also are guilty of installing plugins that we don’t require. We try them and when we realize that we don’t need them, we deactivate and leave them installed. Website owners should know that each plugin removal will increase the speed of their website. Make sure that only required plugins are installed which you intend to use. Sometimes, you can also find code that can be used instead of a plugin to achieve a desired functionality. Try to use such codes whenever it is possible.
  • The Cache Plugin:
If you are really serious about the speed of your website and don’t have the cache plugin installed then it should be the very first thing you should do. When a WordPress site is visited by a user, it collects all the information that is required from the database. A caching plugin will help you out by storing a flat HTML version of the website and providing it instead of repeating the whole process again and again. A new HTML file is created every time something is changed on the website such as new blogs, post, comments etc but still it is far quicker than the normal process.
  • The Hosting Provider:
Apart from the speed of the website there are many more problems that one can face by choosing a wrong hosting provider. Most people would go for a cheap and popular shared hosting provider without investigating the pros and cons of it. You should spend sometime over internet and your colleagues before making a decision in this matter. If you believe that you are going to have high traffic on your website then dedicated hosting will the better choice for you, otherwise you can go with shared hosting.
  • Use Web Optimized Images:
Large images are not suitable for websites as they tend to load slowly and compromise with the speed of the website. Make sure that the images are of the appropriate size and dimensions for your website.
  • Optimizing the Database:
Databases tend to get unruly with the time. You should regularly use the optimize option to sort out any wasted space on the database. You should do this whenever you delete a lot of comments which tends to create a lot of wasted space on your database. Make a note to optimize your database at-least once every month.

There are some more actions that you can take to further enhance the speed of your website but the above tips would also do the trick pretty efficiently. Clients can always take a maintenance package from a professional web development company and make sure that their website is always kept in best shape.

  8. Nice descriptive blog here amy,

I would definatly recommend to anyone the cache plugin. It is much easier to know that a new html file is put in place everytime a change is made to the website. I find the plugin to be fairly good at saving time, however not as much as i hoped to be honest. It is however very worthwhile overall in my opinion.

  19. This hosting provider would be another reason for the delay and other sort of inconvenient services. Since if you don’t have a good hosting provider you would experience some short end services. Like site delay load and site error were in after a short time of span it won’t be able to display. Especially if the browser is very slow and have some errors like Internet explorer.

I’ve been having a lot of issues with my blog loading and have done everything but the hosting provider suggestion. I just switched my blog over to the CloudFlare DNS provider but haven’t noticed much improvement, nor have my tools on my toolbar indicated that the site is loading any faster. I have all of my blogs and sites on a shared plan through MediaTemple. Is it worth getting a dedicated hosting plan through them? Or another company? What do you suggest; I definitely want to get this issue ironed out sooner than later. Thanks.
