The Great Movie Debate: Cinema or TV?

For most of us, there’s nothing quite like a spectacular movie to provide a little excitement and escapism. At the end of a long and stressful day, it’s great to have the opportunity to sit back and relax and enjoy one of Hollywood’s top offerings. It’s the perfect way to forget about any tensions and to simply enjoy being entertained.
We all have different ideas of what makes a great movie, of course, so it isn’t always easy for couples or families to agree about which one to watch. Film night could involve a blockbuster adventure, for example, or a feel-good musical. For some, only an uproarious comedy will do, while others might prefer a thought-provoking drama.

Takeaway curry or bucket of popcorn?

Another debate which can become rather heated concerns where you should watch the film in the first place. After a dip in popularity in recent decades, the cinema is enjoying something of a renaissance nowadays, but some people would prefer to stay at home and enjoy a movie on their LED TV instead.
Going to see a film at the local Multiplex can be a wonderful experience, although it should be pointed out that it isn’t cheap, especially for a family with children. But the seats are always comfortable and the performance is enhanced by the very latest in high-tech picture and sound equipment. And there’s always the ready availability of food and drinks to be enjoyed as well, of course.

Superb viewing experiences await

As might be expected, there have been many technological advances in television manufacturing in recent years, too, which have improved the enjoyment beyond all recognition. A top quality Samsung LED TV, for example, will have a crystal clear picture with a deep, rich sound quality that can make the viewer feel as though he or she is actually in the movie.
One advantage that the cinema has always had over television is the ability to show movies as soon as they are released. Even the premium cable channels have to wait to show a new film, so if fans are keen to see the latest offering they need to see it at the Multiplex rather than wait for the TV stations to catch up.

To wait or not to wait?

But for viewers who feel they can wait, it might be best to hold off for a few months. And when their favourite movie is shown, it doesn’t necessarily matter if they aren’t home for the actual broadcast. A digital TV recorder can be programmed to save films, sporting events and television shows to be enjoyed at a later date. It’s not surprising to discover that many people are opting to invest in top quality audio-visual equipment these days.
With the recent upsurge in production of 3D movies, it’s reassuring to know that television manufacturers have also incorporated this technology into many of their products. There are some superb TV sets on the market these days, and many of them offer an experience that comes very close to visiting the cinema itself.

Another great way of viewing movies and having an endless collection at your disposal is by joining an online service. There are a few great services who all provide free one month trials so if you would like to compare then visit LOVEFiLM vs Netflix UK.

So what about you guys, which do you prefer?

Go to the cinema and see it first, or wait for it to come out on TV?

  1. I find this very interesting. Actually I prefer both may it be TV or Cinema. I find it really enjoying watching movies and I love to see movies in cinema too because of it good cinematography. Both have it’s advantages and disadvantages. But when it comes to comfort, watching on TV is much comfortable :)

  2. This is an interesting post , I don’t know why many people are debating about watching TV or Cinema, for me I prefer to watch on cinema cause in Television there are cut scene , not like Cinema.

  3. Adeline says:

I’m too lazy to go out for a movie and rarely watch a movie on TV as there are too many ads on the ones that are played on popular channels.I watch movies on my desktop PC. How about that. :)

  4. Robin says:

For me, some films need to be watched at the cinema for full impact. However I still mainly watch TV, as it can get expensive going to the cinema on a regular basis,

  5. Catwoman says:

I always prefer the cinema, ithere’s nothing to compare with it. I don’t watch TV (cable) because I hate ads, sometimes I watch films on my laptop but the good films need to be watched in a cinema, I think.

  6. CHRIS DAVIES says:

I have a 55″ Samsung LED TV. It is 3D enabled and has a brilliant picture. We love watching movies on it as a family. However, there is nothing better, for a day out, than a trip to the multiplex to watch films on the Big Screen. There is more atmosphere there and I do enjoy the films even more.
The answer though is, of course, that the home screen beats the cinema everytime because…of price! A trip for five of us to the multiplex + drinks + popcorn = £80
A film streamed to the Samsung through a popular film hire company = £6 per month for unlimited viewing.
    No contest!

Good points made there Chris, I think once you invest in a good home cinema system it’s certainly worth your while to take advantage of it

I have nothing to choose between Cinema and TV I need them both. When I am going to watch a movie probably in Cinema and when I want to watch any TV programs or News probably in TV.

  8. I have to agree with one of the commentors above me. While the movie theater is awesome, it’s just way too expensive. I have a nice TV at home and it looks fantastic with my BluRay player. So for 10 bucks/month I can get tons of movies and a great experience

  9. Hi, I am leaning towards purchasing a nice and superb TV set. This is not far from watching movies in cinemas, with its high quality technology. Aside from being in the comfort of your own homes, you can really save money for watching movies at home instead of theaters, with the same great movie experience.

  10. Svetlana says:

I really go to the cinema just to get out of the house once a week (or once a month if too busy…) But I would not do that every day, so I guess I prefer my huge screen LED TV!

Fantastic post, very intresting keep it up. This is not far from watching movies in cinemas, with its high quality technology.

  12. custom items says:

I have a 55″ Samsung 3D LED TV so I would rather stay home. Of course, if the movie is really worth watching that I can’t wait for it to come out on Blu-ray, then I’d shell out the cash. Besides, it isn’t everyday that you watch a movie so the experience can sometimes be fun.

  13. Dan Lew says:

I would prefer both TV and cinema. When I’m done with my own job, I usually watch my favorite shows on my TV. But if there’s an upcoming movie that makes me and my wife attracted, I would go buy tickets and some popcorn to watch.

  14. Khleo Thomas says:

I would definitely prefer going to a movie any day than watching it on TV for several reasons. One, I am addicted to movie popcorn. I can eat a whole large tub of it by myself. Two, I am able to focus more on the movie if it is gigantic and really loud. Therefore, I less often get lost during the movie which I tend to do if I’m watching a movie at home. Three, it gets you out of the house and into the world. I feel lazy if I just sit at home watching a movie.

  15. Saikrishna says:

My preference is Cinema, since we can see whenever we require but when it comes to TV we cannot pause it. Once we miss the show its gone until it boardcast next time on it. Thanks for suggesting Digital tv recorder for us.

  16. [...] you never have to miss another show but you can save crazy amounts of money watching movies at home rather than going to the theater and paying a bundle. Some people still insist on recording shows on their VCR’s; yes it’s true, [...]
