Fixing the FIFA Football Fun Factor

I have always loved the FIFA games, I had a brief spell with PES, but FIFA won me back from ‘09 but since, even though they have included some much needed updates, there are still some fundamental issues that should and need to be addressed if realism is what they are after.

1. The Manager is in Control

I want to be able to control everything that is happening on the field, not just the player with the ball but where the full backs are running, if my individual midfielders are trying to find space or standing idle waiting to defend. There needs to be more options in the frankly terrible team management menu. For starters they need to sort out the lagging of it and then introduce more situations similar to the set piece menu to be added to quick tactics in game. How effective would a “Marcelo Bomb on” quick tactic that you could flick to mid game.

2. Harsh Penalties for Quitters

You’ve been there, playing superbly on what has seemed to be quite an even game to score the winning goal in the 88th minute only for the other person to quit, sometimes its worse and they quit much earlier. But introducing an option to skip playing someone if they quit their last game would save a lot of people the hassle and may act as a deterrent if the quitters find it harder to find a game to play.

3. Dodgy Referee Decisions

The handballs as much as I hate having them against me was a step in the right direction to creating a game closer to that of real life. But what needs to be introduced is the dodgy ref decisions of a couple dodgy penalties or an offside given or not. Could be done with some sort of percentage of mistakes in the referee section, but as Fifa don’t want to portray their officials as anything but infallible I can’t see this happening.

4. No Wilkins or Souness

The only way to still listen to Richard Keys and Andy Gray is currently on the Fifa game, I thought they may have changed it in the January update, but I fear for the fact they could introduce Wilkins as Souness as the replacement. I can’t stress enough how I hope this isn’t the case.

5. Defending the Arena

I’m not talking a COD style zombies type of defence, but to be able to be a defender or play against a defender in the arena, as I would love a defender to skin and skip past before burying a shot in the bottom corner, I think it would make the arena a little more fulfilling.

I hope you enjoyed my personal list of additions I want to see made on for the next instalment, I’m sure you all have your own little annoyances with the game so why not share them in  the comment box below.

    Hey Andymonty,
I just don’t understand why you left PES at all.I agree with you that the 2009 one was too crappy but the 2011 has got the game engine totally revamped. They have introduced many features like 360 degree rotation, total pass control etc.

I like the first point as it helps to control everything happening in the field. The commentary of Richards Keys and Andy Gray is just awesome while playing the game, it makes the game exciting to some extent.
