One of the most stressful things when travelling with families in tow is not being able to find places to eat, sleep and other amenities. Fortunately there have been some iPhone apps designed to help you find what you are looking for and let you enjoy more laid back and relaxed travels.

Before we start looking for things though we want to make sure we have packed everything that we need, as forgetting a vital item is a sure fire way to make your journey more stressful. Packing list is a neat little ($1.99) app that is specifically designed for just this purpose although there are some other popular apps that will provide you with simple to do lists. One of the most user friendly is Remember the Milk.

In addition to this many of the top travel content producers such as Lonely Planet also produce travel guides that can be used on the iPhone. You will also be able to get hold of a free app to help you with the language. Try the 24/7 tutor and if you don’t even want to bother learning the language then there are some apps that can speak on your behalf!

The Kayak app is really useful when it comes to finding flights and hotels. Allowing you to search flights from multiple cities and various levels of hotels this app can be invaluable if you find yourself in some unplanned circumstances.

So now that you have everything you need in your bag, can speak enough of the language to get around, have your flights booked and somewhere to stay there is only one more thing you need to take care of. You want something to eat of course, so why not experience the local cuisine using the LocalEast iPhone app. This neat little $0.99 app will help you avoid all those big chain restaurants and experience something a little more authentic for the top 50 cities through out the U.S. and Canada.

  1. Hi There,

I travel around the World at least once month from Wellington, New Zealand and am constantly prone to delayed or cancelled flights and my business contacts and family are constantly trying to understand when I am landing so that they can reach me.
I have therefore created an iPhone application that gives live departures and arrivals information for any flights at any given airport around the World. You can find an overview of the application at http://www.3dot5.net/blog/world-flights/.

There is also a draw to win an ipad everytime a milestone of 10,000 download is reached on the AppStore, more information can be found on: http://www.3dot5.net/blog/win-an-ipad-with-world-flights/

    Cheers,

    Patrice
