Considering there are pretty much no video games out at all this month, I thought I would write a review about one of the games that I have recently completed (although not 100% yet), LEGO Harry Potter 1-4.
I have to say that I was really debating on whether or not to buy this game because the last LEGO game (Indiana Jones 2) was quite simply the worst one they had made to date. There were far too many terrible vehicle sections, the game was very repetitive and I felt I had just seen it all before in the previous LEGO Indy and Star Wars games. The only good thing that came from this game is the fact that the co-op system had been improved upon so that players were no longer fighting over who had the camera.
Well I am pleased to say that this is the only thing they carried over to the new LEGO Harry Potter game and that Travellers Tales have made the first amazing LEGO game since the original Star Wars one was released.
This time around if you are playing by yourself you do not need to worry about your AI partner doing nothing at all to help you. Step onto something that can be raised by the flick of a wand and the AI will cast Wingardium Leviosa and you will be elevated to where you need to be.

Speaking of the spells, they are what make this new LEGO game seem fresh and unique and it is great to be able to cast all of the best spells from the books. (Even though I am still begging for a game to be released in which I play a death eater and i’m able to cast the unforgivable curses). Some of the spells include Reducto, Lumos, Immobulus and of course Expelliarmus. No longer are you simply swiping away to get the studs, you are doing something worthwhile and something that makes a lot of sense.
The story in the game really captures the best moments of the films and books without straying too far away and that LEGO humour that people are so used to is back and on top form.
Overall I would say that if you were disappointed by some of the recent LEGO games you should buy this one because it feels like a brand new game, not a rehash of older games with Batman instead of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
A strong 9/10 from me on this one. The only downside to the game is that it could have done with online play and allowing users to share their custom made levels over the net.
