Although this post is games related, it’s more of a moan than anything else, simply because it would seem that game developers or the people behind the whole organisation process on deciding on what games come out when have really messed up big time again towards the latter part of 2010. Let me explain further on what I am talking about.

July 2010

Any gamer will know that it has been a very quiet this month with the only two games even worth looking into being Crackdown and dare I say it Toy Story 3 (haven’t played it yet). For a gamer this really is not acceptable at all. But why has July been so quiet, is it because there just aren’t many developers on the case at the moment? Well August has a few more answers on this…

August 2010

August looks to be another month like July with the main games being Kane & Lynch 2 and Mafia II which I have to say looks to be the best game of the month and possibly one of the best this year. Again is this because developers have nothing to do? Well no, not at all, as you will see in the last few months of the year.

September 2010

This looks to be a serious improvement on the previous two months with games such as H.A.W.X 2 and Halo Reach making into the stores. Other games include the stunning looking F1 2010, Super Scribblenauts, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Test Drive Unlimited 2.

Well the fact is I am not going to be able to afford all of these great titles which means I will have to get the ones I know are going to be great like Halo Reach and F1 2010. This means I miss out on the ones I really wanted to purchase like Spiderman and Scribblenauts which is a great shame. This is where I start to get a bit annoyed with the industry because people cannot afford everything, especially with Christmas coming up. Don’t believe me? Take a look at October and November!

October 2010

This month is even more packed than the previous when it comes to gaming and titles you can look out for include, FIFA 11, Dead Rising 2, Prey 2, DJ Hero 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 4, Dead Space Ignition, Just Dance 2, Lego Star Wars II: The Clone Wars, Fallout: New Vegas, Fable 3, Star Wars The Forced Unleashed II and Saw II! Baring in mind these are not all of the games coming out for the month, merely the ones I am interested in getting. As you can see there is no way anyone on normal wages is going to be able to afford this!

November 2010

November is a big month for gamers thanks to the fact that Kinect is expected to be released. Here is a taste of the games you can expect to see. Kinect Adventures, Kinect Joy Ride, Kinect Sports, Kinectimals, Your Shape: fitness Evolved, F.3.A.R, Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Crysis 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Assassins Creed Brotherhood, and MazxPayne 3. Once again you need to consider this is not all of games out this month, I didn’t even include all of the Kinect games. To put it into perspective, if you were to buy all of the games listed for October and November at retail price it would cost you well over £1,000! This is without even thinking about the cost of Kinect.

How is someone like me who owns all of the main three consoles along with the DS going to be able to afford to get all of these great games?  The simple answer, it is not going to happen.

I do not think I need to even go into December!

Why Does This Happen?

Christmas is one of the main reasons this happens and companies feel that more games are going to be purchased during this time. Whilst this is true it is unfair on parents as well as gamers who cannot afford to purchase the games they want. They are forced to buy the main ones and leave the other games that are just as good to not sell well at all.

Developers feel that people do not play games in the Summer very much at all which is rubbish, the only reason we don’t play many games is because there are never any decent ones released from June through the end of August!

Personally I feel if more time was spent looking into the fact that no one is going to be able to afford all of these titles, there would not be a problem. A good gamer does not simply just play one type of game, but plays them all.

What do you think, do you think that more video games should be released in the summer and less during the last few months of the year, are you going to even have enough time to play through the ones you buy during this time?

You focus solely on console games, but July has Star Craft 2: Wings of Liberty which has high expectations and the RTS masses wondering if it will live up to the hype on July 27th

  4. Ryan Ogilvie says:

Very true, I did focus a lot on the console games and it is important to see that there are many PC games that are pretty decent. I have a couple of friends looking into Starcraft, personally I am not a PC gamer which is why I didn't mention the likes of SC and the new Sims 3 game.
