New iPod Touch Coming With 5 Megapixel Camera

At last years music event in September, Apple were widely expected to announce a new iPod Touch with a camera. Two things happened. They announced a new iPod Touch. But there was no camera in sight, instead the iPod Nano got itself a camera.

It turned out afterwards that there was in fact a camera planned for the iPod Touch, but it had to be pulled at the last minute due to manufacturing difficulties.

So it’s almost a guarantee this year at Apple’s music event held in September, we will see a camera in the iPod Touch. And now we have a UK retailer confirming that with some additional details.

Major UK Retailer “John Lewis” has shared information at the company’s “Xmas in July” event in London. The information is based on “noises we’re hearing from suppliers”,

So what do John Lewis expect in the next gen iPod Touch?

• 5-Megapixel Camera
• LED Flash
• HD Video Recording
• Facetime Video Calling
• Gyroscope

There’s no word on weather or not the iPhone 4 Retina display will find it’s way into the iPod Touch, unless they can sort out supply issues though, I doubt it.

We didn’t hear anything about a front facing camera but parts for the next gen iPod have just appeared showing holes for a front facing camera which would make sense for Facetime. We’re not certain that a 5 megapixel camera module would actually fit into the iPod Touch’s sleek design so a front facing camera would make sense.

Basically the next gen iPod Touch looks set to become almost exactly what the iPhone 4 is, just without the phone function.
