Sitting down to catch up on Nintendo’s take on E3 this year (I was at work when the conference started and I didn’t want to miss anything) I have to say I started watching not expecting anything decent to happen. After all it would seem last year Nintendo really did pretty much tell their hardcore fans to hit the road as it was time for them to focus on the mainstream market.
This year I am very pleased to say that they have realised their mistakes and laid out a conference that was pretty much just for their hardcore fans. Will I be spending more time on my Wii than my PS3 and Xbox 360 in the next year?
I will start with the small and end with the big here, so please bare with me.
Epic Mickey
You are reading correctly there is a Mickey Mouse game coming to the Nintendo Wii and not only this it is looking awesome! In this game you see Mickey Mouse thrown into a world of darkness with the Blot and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (an old Disney reject) that he has unwillingly created himself. He must battle through in this platformer to seek
redemption for the mischief he has created. Sounds like a strange one but it looks really awesome indeed.
Donkey Kong Country Returns
I still remember the classic Donkey Kong Country game on the SNES and this is a game that I used to play a lot as a child. Again I would say that although in theory it is going to be a great game but it is once again not Rare developing the game and they are the ones that made it so good in the first place.
Metroid Other M
In all honesty I have not played a Metriod game properly since the one on the SNES but I will of course admit that they are fantastic games. This one looks like a good game to play but to me it just seems like a rehash of the recent games that have come out on the Wii.
Goldeneye
You are again reading the title correctly, after thirteen years this game is finally seeing a total overhaul and being released exclusively on the Wii later this year. Although this games looks like it could be the best Bond game since the original Goldeneye was released do not expect it to be better because this time the torch is being passed to Activision instead of Rare. I am however still confident that Nintendo know this has to be a good game.
The Legend Of Zelda: The Skyward Sword
One of the biggest pieces of news to be announced was the new Legend of Zelda game with the adult link but with the cell shaded graphics. The good thing is the cell shaded graphics aren’t as extreme as they were in the Wind Waker and another good point to make is that the controls have all been made for the Wii MotionPlus controller. (although this failed for them on the day).
3DS/ Kid Icarus

This was the biggest announcement in terms of hardware and possibly the whole conference as Nintendo announced a brand new 3D handheld console that would let its users play it without the need of glasses of any kind. The big announcement in terms of games for this was the Kid Icarus title which is promised for the release of the handheld.
The only bad point to all of this is that there was no release date for it as of yet but the console does look pretty awesome allowing people to not pnly play games in 3D but to take pictures in 3D too!
Of course there were a couple of other announcements too like the Mario party like game involving Mii’s and the Mario sports title but these really didn’t see much excitement from the Nintendo fans and it is hardly surprising really. I am a little disappointed that Nintendo can’t come up with anything new, the last big franchise they started up was Pikmin on the Gamecube and I would like to see a new franchise coming from them next time.
