Microsoft’s E3 Presentation

Ryan is a keen gamer that rushed back last night after work to watch Microsoft’s E3 conference along with EA’s and Ubisoft’s. He works for a company that sell bathroom cabinets . If you’d like to contribute a post see here

E3 is this week and Microsoft kick started the event with their conference and I have to say it was what I expected and much, much more.

The usual suspects kick started the conference and by this I mean gameplay of the new Call Of Duty, Halo Reach and Gears Of War 3 all looking absolutely fantastic. It might just be me but it would seem that Call of Duty is just getting very old now; it seems the new one is just a rehash of Modern Warfare 2 with helicopters, how exciting.

Halo looks like the same old Halo with polished graphics and faster, meaner covenant and Gears of War 3 hasn’t changed too much but with the introduction of the Lambent it would seem the game has got a bit crazy as they have mixed in with the Locust and in the demo it would seem the berserker is back and had a bit of a fight with a Lambent, it
looks mental.

Microsoft Kinect
The main focus point for Microsoft this year was actually Natal (recently named Kinect) and it was time for Microsoft to finally reveal some of the games that are going to be released with the hardware this fall. There are fifteen titles that are going to be released with the hardware but they only showed six of these at the event, here is a summary of the six mentioned and a couple of bonuses for hardcore gamers.

Kinectimals

It would seem that this is almost taken the place of “Milo and Kate” which was shown at last year’s E3 conference. In this game you travel to a magical island where you can raise your very own wild animal. Although this sounds very childish it isn’t at all as the animal reacts to your voice, listens to what you say reacts accordingly. It sounds a lot like Nintendogs but when you look at it closely it is so
much more.

Dance Central

This one is Harmonix’s take on a new music game and it looks like it really picks up every single movement that you make. Although it looks complicated there are tutorials in the game so you can start to pick up things very quickly. Although this looks great fun I am not sure this is going to be one of the launch games I am going to buy.

Kinect Sports

I know, it’s just Wii Sports right? Well no its much more than that as you do not need a remote. If you want to play the football game you play it just like you would in real life and you dive for the save exactly how you would in reality too. Although there is just a trailer on the above video there was live footage of the hurdles at E3 and it seemed to work really well.

Kinect Joy Ride

Remember that game that was supposed to be coming to XBLA for free? Well now they have turned it into a full Kinect game and it seems to be working very well indeed. You don’t need extra items to play this game, just put your hands on an invisible wheel and drive around. Push forward with your hands to drift and steer by turning your hands just like you would on a real wheel.

Your Shape

This is a lot like Wii Fit in many ways but instead of using a Wii remote and board to play the game the only thing you need is yourself. It scans your body and allows you to fully interact with the environment. You then have your own personal trainer that guides you through exercises to help you to get fit and lose weight.

Kinect Adventures

This game looks very fun indeed and with over 20 different adventures to go on with your friends and family why wouldn’t it be fun? Although once again the above video is a trailer there was a live demo of the rafting section of the game and it looks to be certainly a game I am going to be buying on launch of Kinect.

Star Wars

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAu9fX74Elk
This was the surprise one for many people sitting in the crowd and the game that is going to appeal to the hardcore gamers is the Star Wars game set to be released in 2011. It puts you in the shoes of a Jedi for the first time ever. Use the force with your hands and use your lightsabre to take out people just like a real Jedi would. This is the Star Wars game that fans have been waiting for.

More Kinect
It isn’t just about the games, Kinect has full voice recognition meaning you can watch movies without a controller, talk to friends over video chat without a controller and even connect to Facebook and listen to music without having to pick up the pad.

There are a lot of concerned hardcore gamers out there that think this is going to be a bad thing for Microsoft, I on the other hand have been playing games since I was three, I am a hardcore gamer and I think this is going to be fantastic, bring on November!

On a final note there is a new Xbox 360 on the way and apart from looking a bit shiner it comes with built in Wi-Fi and a 250GB hard drive and for the same price as an Elite!

I will be reporting on what Sony and Nintendo have to say in the coming days.
