Let’s face it. When it comes to laptops we’re firmly in guy territory right? It’s all “my hard drive’s bigger than yours” and “mine boots up in 3.2 seconds” (speed isn’t always good OK boys?). But these days laptop manufacturers are waking up to the other half of the population. Below is my roundup of 5 of the most stylish and fashionable laptops on the market.
1. Ego Bentley
This laptop is the most glamorous of its kind. The Ego Bentley has a curvy chassis and is designed to look like a handbag. In addition, you can change its skins that form the external shell of the device , which comes in leather, alcantara and spray-painted plastic. Once you get bored of the old color, you can change it and will have a wide range of colors and textures to choose from.
And here is some info for ladies who care about the specs as well as the design: The Ego Bentley is equipped with a 64-bit version of Microsoft VistaUltimate, a 160GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM. It runs a Mobile AMD Turion TM 64 processor. It has a sleek 12 inch screen, web cam, Dvd player / Burner… and of course wifi support.
Sounds like every chic geek girl’s dream accessory right? Well kinda. The silly thing about this laptop is yes, it looks like a handbag, but it doesn’t actually replace your handbag does it? A girl still needs to carry her essentials (y’know, lipstick, makeup, etc). So you’d have to carry a handbag as well as your Ego Bentley. Not the most practical idea. But maybe I’m just jealous of ladies who can afford to fork out the $20,000 price tag…
2. HP’s Vivienne Tam Special Edition
If you want the ultimate fashionable laptop then HP’s Vivienne Tam Special Edition machine is for you. Thats right girls, this little beauty actually debuted in Bryant Park at New York City fashion week. The special edition laptop represents the first time a major high end designer and computer company joined forces to present a notebook that is not only stylish but also super portable. Vivienne Tam was approached by HP to design them a new laptop, and she came up with something that’s apparently a “true reflection of the needs of a modern woman who cares about fashion but is also passionate about her technology.”
The laptop is a vibrant red with a beautiful peony design which is meticulously carried inside the notebook, under the keypad. The notebook has a complimentary embroidered case/sleeve and is approximately clutch purse-sized… with a 10-inch widescreen.
My verdict: a smart little thing that actually fits in your handbag? That’s more like it…
3. Sony Vaio P
Wow, these are getting smaller and smaller – a laptop that fits in your tushy pocket huh? Undeniably one of the sexiest notebooks around, this 15.4-inch netbook represents the ideal device for women who enjoy a stylish look. Think of a regular sized (“big”) netbook, chopped in half lengthwise, then compressed even further to just 0.78 inches thick, and you can imagine exactly how tiny this laptop really is. It has sparkling metallic-fleck finish and comes in different patterns, including a stylized floral/Japanese look. All patterns are available in blue, pink, and basic black.
Despite its size, P-Series sports a surprisingly large keyboard for smooth typing with both hands.
Specs: an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz processor, 2 GB memory, 120 GB hard drive space, wireless and Bluetooth.
My verdict: hubba hubba. I would carry this little beauty around with me!
4. X2 Stylebook
The X2 Stylebook laptops are the first laptops specifically marketed to women. They have been designed with both fashion and the female audience in mind. The StyleBook weighs only 3.9 pounds, and is available in pastel green, blue, pink, white, metallic black, and silver. The laptop comes with (wait for it) a matching handbag that complements each case design. It’s not exactly new heights in computing, but the Stylebook does make a stab at decent specs. It’s pretty lightweight, small and with a Pentium M processor, and let’s face it a faux alligator bag along with your green laptop is really as good as it gets.
5. Asus Lamborghini VX5
So now us girls are pretty well catered for, I didn’t want to leave the rest of you out. Here is one for the fashionable but equally macho boys!
It is the latest and the closest automobile lookalike ‘Asus Lamborghini VX5’, with a Lambo bull badge in the middle of the lid and shallow louvres behind. The exterior styling is based on Lamborghini’s Reventón, which would set you back a measly 1 Million Euros. I’m going to assume you can’t afford that, which is where the VX5 comes in.
Available in classic black or white, the VX5 includes such features as leather covers, padded wrist wrests for the keyboard and a slick metal trim around the edges. There’s even a laptop equivalent of a ‘turbo’ switch, a little button marked ‘speed’ next to the ceramic touchpad (don’t ask me what this does though).
This laptop boasts an insane 1TB solid-state drive, Intel’s Core 2 Quad processor , 130M for graphics, along with 4GB of DDR3 memory. It offers a full HD 16-inch display. The screen also features ambient backlighting – dimming, where conditions allow – and is mirrored by the backlit keyboard. An integrated Blu-ray drive lets you watch high-definition films. With graphics handled by a dedicated Nvidia GPU, there’s enough 3D power to handle multimedia tasks with ease, and HD movies play back smoothly.
Hmmm, strange how when we get into boys’ toys territory the specs shoot up to uber-powerful, huh? Just a tip though boys, if you’re looking to pick up girls this Lamborghini is not a substitute for the real thing!
