Alan Wake has been out for a few days now so I thought it would be a good idea to actually put down my opinion on the game on what I thought of it so far.
I am near the end of this game so I have a pretty good idea on what it is all about and whether or not it is a game that has been worth the four years plus it has taken to develop this title.
For starters I would say that the scenery graphics are absolutely fantastic. You can really tell that thousands of pictures were taken for reference but when it comes to the player models I feel that that graphics certainly could have been improved upon.
In terms of gameplay I found the first chapter of the game to be brilliant but after this it just seemed to get very repetitive and it reminds me of Resident Evil in that you have a small puzzle then a bunch of enemies rush you and then onto another small puzzle. The way that you kill the enemies is the same each time, rid the darkness from
their bodies by shining your torch at them and then shoot the crap out of them. This hasn’t changed since I started the game other than a couple of inanimate objects flying out of nowhere at me which once again you can stop with your torch or any light source you find.
It is also very clear that energizer are a big sponsor of this game as the only batteries that you come across for your torch are energizer ones, funny that. They make it very obvious as the logo and packets are there and you seem to come across batteries every minute or so.
The story is at best, average with nothing really amazing to say about it and I saw the first cliff-hanger coming a mile away. In terms of multiplayer there is nothing there at all but I do not think this should be counted against the game, multiplayer and single player should always be reviewed separately in my opinion.
Apart from these things I am still enjoying the game and I hope to complete it before Read Dead Redemption drops into my lap because when this happens there is no going back until Halo Reach comes out in September. I will be writing a review for Red Dead so look out for that in the not too distant future
