Android Over Takes iPhone Web Traffic In U.S.

Now this information isn’t rock solid evidence, but it’s pretty reliable. According to mobile ad network AdMob, who released their monthly mobile metrics report for March recently, Android has overtaken the iPhone in terms of the numbers of Ads being delivered, which is generally a pretty good indication as to what’s happening.

According to the report, Android traffic in the U.S. increased to 46 percent of operating system share compared to 39 percent for the iPhone operating system. Worldwide, the iPhone OS still took the top spot, taking 46 percent of the OS share, with Android phones seeing 25 percent of impressions. AdMob measures mobile ad impressions, which is a proxy for overall traffic.

Android is certainly beginning to take off now and is gathering momentum. I for one have just purchased my first Android device, the HTC Desire and I’m delighted with it. The App Store may not be as impressive as Apple’s but some of the hardware, particularly those made by HTC and Motorola are equal if not better than the iPhone. And let’s not forget that the Android Market is the second largest by miles and has over 50,000 apps and is growing at an alarming rate, it’s the only real competitor to Apple at the moment.

  2. That is a very good news. It will not take long that the Android will become more popular than iPhone.
