While we have seen the HP Slate in carefully produced videos up to now, we haven’t actually got to see the proper product and get a good hands on but now it looks like the tablet has been making the rounds.
Conecti.ca have managed to get their hands on one and share with us their first hands on experience. And what was their conclusion? Well it was just “Meh” ye meh, now there’s a high quality hands on for you isn’t it.
Apparently the fact that you can properly multitask, run Windows 7, play flash etc… is what leaves you with that “Meh” impression. It’s essentially a touchscreen notebook where as the iPad is really just an internet tablet with a few extras. Granted you can do a lot more on the HP Slate but apparently this makes it somewhat sluggish and feel more like a notebook than a tablet.
For those of you who don’t know, here are the specs
- The Slate will cost $549 in its base configuration
- It has a 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive multitouch display,
- 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor with UMA graphics and an accelerator for 1080p video playback
- 32GB of flash storage and 1GB of non-upgradeable RAM
- There’s also a $599 version with 64GB of storage,
- Five-hour battery
- SDHC slot, a USB port, a SIM card slot for the optional 3G modem, and a dock connector for power, audio, and HDMI out.
- 2 Cameras
- It runs Windows 7 with a HP Touch Optimized UI
So is it a worthy rival to the iPad? Well it has a smaller screen, though it’s said to be brighter and pretty well built. It also has usb ports etc… and a camera, but it’s really just a touchscreen notebook
