As the release date for the Apple iPad draws nearer every day, more and more information about the apps and content that will be available is coming out every day. Todays news is that the Wall Street Journal will be available on the iPad for just $17.99 a month.
The Wall Street Journal decided to report on itself today and are saying that a “person familiar with the matter” has said the Wall Street Journal will be coming to the iPad for $17.99 a month. Now just hold on a minute, didn’t the Wall Street Journal already get their very own iPad to help develop their Wall Street Journal App? Hmmm, I wonder who that “person familiar with the matter” was.
Now it does work out cheaper than the print version of The Journal which costs $349 for 52 weeks or about $29 per month.
The WSJ article also addresses advertising on the iPad–apparently Time magazine will debut its iPad version with adverts from Unilever, Toyota, Fidelity Investments and three other companies, with each ad said to be setting them back a whooping $200,000 for the full first eight issues!
However the adverts won’t be your ordinary ones, for example Time Inc.’s Sport Illustrated has been showing advertisers three video-heavy ad prototypes, including one for a Ford Mustang that includes an arcade-style driving game using the tilt-and-turn capability of the iPad. With just a few touches to the screen, readers can pick paint colors and wheel styles for cars they might want to buy all from within the advert.
We are also hearing that magazines will be available on a weekly or monthly subscription service and will cost near to their current prices.
