Here is a guest post from Ryan who is a keen internet marketer who represents a company that sell things like a Dehumidifier, He cannot wait to experiement with Project Natal on the Xbox 360. If you’re interested in writing a guest post check this out

The fact is that if you are a big gamer you will know that coming this winter on the Xbox 360 is the pretty decent looking Project Natal. If you don’t know what this is then here is a brief overview:

You Are The Controller

This is the entire point of the new hardware that Microsoft are releasing and it marks a new and revolutionary way of playing games by allowing gamers to play without the need of a controller. Nothing at all needs to be attached to your body so if for example you see a ball, you can hit it, kick it, trap it or even catch it. If you know how to move your hands, shake your hips or speak then you are capable of playing the game.

It would seem the major game that is being released for the console is being called Milo and Kate and this will feature an AI character that you are able to talk too. Not only can you talk to the character but you are able to have a conversation with him, he will answer your questions just like a real human would. This is confirmed to have a storyline to it so don’t think the game will be at all pointless. Project Natal enables its users to scan things into the game from the real world meaning that scanning an apple into Milo and Kate means that the apple will appear in the AI world and Milo will pick up the apple and interact with it. On top of this it has been said that Milo will be able to learn words in the same way as humans do which means the dictionary for the game is ever growing. Take into consideration that the AI character Milo is going to be a 10 yr old boy.

Voice recognition is a very important part of Project Natal and it would seem that players will be able to tell the Xbox to turn off and on and of course interact with the game on a level that we have never seen before. Online quizzes with the host recognising voices are set to appear.

Rival companies such as Sony have stated that this is nothing more than the technology that they invented 8 years ago (the eyetoy) but it is much more than that, it recognises individual humans, it maps 3D and has better movement recognition, this is a major step forward to virtual reality and this is not a cheap toy by any means.

Although I cannot see games such as first person shooters working very well for this, it still remains to be seen if any major titles are going to be made purely for the hardware. Lionhead have announced that Fable 3 will have Project Natal features but it will not be made just for Natal.

Remember that although a new Xbox 360 will most likely be released with this new piece of hardware, Microsoft have announced that all previous 360 consoles will be compatible with Natal.

This is not a Wii, this is not an eyetoy, this is something different, something better and perhaps even the future of gaming.
