Ok, I knew some people spend all day on Facebook, but I didn’t think enough people did to make it the most visited site on the web! For the first time in history, the world’s largest social networking site managed to surpass Google in terms of web traffic.
Facebook is rapidly growing, back in April 2009 they had 200 million users, now they have over 400 million active users. More than 50% of these users log on to their Facebook accounts every day and I’m sure there’s a large number of people who log on several times a day.
Poor Google have been knocked off the number one spot in terms of web traffic. According to the research firm, Hitwise – Facebook accounted for 7.07 percent of visits in the week ended March 13, topping Google.com’s 7.03 percent.
It just goes to show, people much prefer to update their statuses and constantly check for any new notifications more than they want to surf the web anymore.
Now bear in mind that Facebook hasn’t completely wiped Google off the number one spot because they have multiple other branches of their main site Google.com like Google.ca, Google.co.uk, Google.ie etc…. and if we look at the top 20 sites we see several of these are in there.
None the less, it’s still an impressive feat and it just goes to show how popular social networking is becoming these days.
It’s hard to believe that a University Student founded Facebook back in 2004 when you look at the major success it’s become.

For me I think face-book is not that popular nowadays maybe lately, because Google created their own social media called Google+ , and has the same features as the face-book, I agree that some are keep spending their time using face-book.why don’t they try using their Google account if they have for them to know.
