Opera is the most popular mobile phone browser out their with over 50 million users, easily beating the number of iPhone users with the Safari browser. Well now Opera 5 Mini Beta is available on the Android Marketplace. Opera’s speedy browser promises to deliver a full desktop web browsing experience on your phone.
So how does it go about keeping this promise?
Well for a start it compresses 90% of data on Opera servers before it’s actually sent to your handset, as a result you have less data to download so the page loads quicker.
Opera Mini 5 also has familiar desktop browsing features like tabbed browsing,password manager and of course bookmarks.
Opera Mini 5 also has the “Speed Dial” feature which can be found on the desktop version of the browser. What it does is display a list of your 9 most visited sites as your homepage so you have quick and easy access to them without having to type in the URL or go searching through your bookmarks.
Android phone users can download Mini 5 by visiting Opera’s mobile Website, m.opera.com/next, with the standard Android browser. And of course the Opera browser can also be downloaded through the Android Marketplace.
They have also announced plans to submit Opera Mini to the App Store, We’ve yet to hear if its been rejected, or if it’s even definitely been submitted, but lets hope that an iPhone version of Opera Mini 5 isn’t far behind as Opera claim it’s 6 times faster than the Safari browser.
