Sony are also looking to get into the motion control game market, which the Wii has had great success in. It seems now that Nintendo, Microsoft ( Project Natal ) and Sony are all fighting with each other to get you off the couch and jumping around your living room playing games. Best of luck to them!
The Sony Move is very like the Wii with it’s two motion controllers, the difference is that one of them has a coloured ball on the top and the other ( which is like the Nunchuck for the Wii ) is also wireless.
I think Sony are expecting us to perform some major Kung Fu, Jackie Chan style moves because just like the Wii they come complete with sturdy wrist straps to save your flatscreen TV from assault.
What’s different from the Wii is the PlayStation Move can capture your position precisely within real 3D space, instead of just relative movement based on a previous position. The Wii does a good job a detecting movement (with its built-in accelerometers), pointing (with the sensor bar), and even your exact orientation (with that addition of MotionPlus) but it’s not this accurate.
Some I’m afraid those of you who like to play the Wii with just a little flick of the wrist will be caught out here as you will have to perform the full motion in order to get the desired reaction in the game. It should also prove interesting for augmented reality gameplay as it also makes use of the “Eye Toy” camera to track the position of the coloured ball on top of the remote.
Sony have also been working hard at the computing side of things as well. They are claiming that there is just a 1 fps delay between your motion and the games reaction, that’s just as fast as the current dualshock 3 controller.
Sony are aiming to get lots of new titles out to take advantage of this new technology, but have also showed off that you can still use it with some of the current titles like in “Little Big Planet”.
So when is it going on sale? Well we’re being told in time for the “Holidays” so it will be around the same time as project natal is released as well. We’re being told that you can get the remotes, the camera and a game all for $100. We’re yet to hear of prices for the individual elements.
What do you think of it?
