I know there is tons of people out their eager to get their hands on Apples next product, the iPad. Well you eager beavers will just have to be patient, that is if you believe what analyst Peter Misek at Canaccord Adams has to say. He is predicting that there will only be limited availability of the iPad at launch, due to “manufacturing bottlenecks”.
“We have … heard that the upcoming iPad launch may be somewhat limited as a manufacturing bottleneck has impacted production of Apple’s newest device,” Misek writes.
“An unspecified production problem at the iPad’s manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision, will likely limit the launch region to the US and the number of units available to roughly 300K in the month of March, far lower than the company’s initial estimate of 1,000K units. The delay in production ramp will likely impact Apple’s April unit estimate of 800K as well. It is also possible that, given the limited number of units available in March, the launch will be delayed for a month.”
So if your not in the US you may not be getting the iPad at all later this month, and even if you are in the US you may not be able to get your hands on one at all.
However he doesn’t see this initial shortage as a problem for Apple’s sales of the new iPad since they loyal mac fan boys will be patient enough to wait. The only loss of sales he expects will come from a decline in consumer interest for the latest Apple product.
Yet he is still citing some impressive sales figures for the iPad. ” He figures Apple will sell 550,000 units in its third quarter, which ends in June, 1.2 million in fiscal year 2010 and 3.5 million in 2011.
But we must bear in mind that this is the person who also told us that Verizon would be getting the iPhone in January and that Apple would announce iPhone OS 4.0, both of which didn’t happen so make what you like of this news.
