Bill Gates Not Impressed With The Apple iPad

Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft, recently told BNET, that he’s not all that impressed with Apple’s latest creation, the iPad.

Steve Jobs made the iPad out to be the greatest thing since Christmas, but personally I never felt it was anything special. The iPhone and iPod Touch were big steps forwards, but the iPad just doesn’t do anything super extraordinary for me.

And it seems that a man, of much higher caliber than me actually agrees. Bill Gates believes that netbooks still have the advantage over the iPad. For one they can Multitask, something Apple seems to refuse to add to their devices, secondly that have a physical keyboard and DVD drive among other things.

“You know, I’m a big believer in touch and digital reading, but I still think that some mixture of voice, the pen and a real keyboard – in other words a netbook – will be the mainstream on that,

Now Apple fan boys may be saying, what do you expect? He’s the chairman of Microsoft. Well in all fairness to him he did credit Steve Jobs and Apple for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

“So, it’s not like I sit there and feel the same way I did with iPhone where I say, ‘Oh my God, Microsoft didn’t aim high enough.’ It’s a nice reader, but there’s nothing on the iPad I look at and say, ‘Oh, I wish Microsoft had done it.’”

Steve Jobs is aiming to get the iPad into a very small gap between Smartphones, which are rapidly increasing in popularity, and the laptop which is still standing firm. And what is already in that gap that Apple are trying to exploit> Why it’s the humble netbook. Netbooks have recently taken off and there is very high demand for them, I can’t see the iPad replacing them. Especially since you can do pretty much everything on a netbook and more that you can do on the iPad.

What are your comments on the iPad? Do you think it will sell well, or damage netbooks?

if the iPad had a 256GB SSD in it, and 10.6 with a superdrive i think it would take off it would fill the netbook nitch but it would also be more. When you look at it its just a big iPod Touch with the web but hey thats just me. Im impressed with the size of it its just not powerful enough.
