Update: We now know that Motorola will be rolling out this update this week! Motorola is now reporting via its official Facebook page that it’s “happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to Droid will start to roll out this week,” but they are teasing us and said more details are to follow, so Droid users you won’t have to wait to long now!

The Motorola Droid has been verizons flagship phone against the iPhone for the last couple of months and was received quite well by users. However one thing that really bugged me and others was the lack of Multi touch, yet again!

Well Droid users can now rejoice! The next update for the Droid will include Android 2.1 and Multi Touch or at least the browser and Google Maps will be anyway.

Also expected in the update is Google Goggles, News and Weather widgets from the Nexus One. So those of you who were pretty “annoyed” when the Nexus One was released with Android 2.1 compared to the Droid’s 2.0.1 may not feel as much distaste towards it now.

However it seems that 2.1 for the Droid won’t be the same as 2.1 on the Nexus One, there will be no flash support, no 3D cube for apps and no active backgrounds :-(

But I’m sure you will welcome the multi touch more than anything, this news comes only days after Google released an update for the Nexus One enabling multi touch.

There’s no word on when this update will be released as it’s still in testing, so if it fails we could be waiting a bit longer for it, but it does seem to be on the way!
