Google Phasing Out Support For Old Browsers

It seems Google are beginning to get fed up with people refusing to update their browsers, this may be caused by the recent attacks against their company and others, which are said to have occurred through vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer 6. Well as of March 1st Google will no longer support IE6 on its Google Docs and Google Sites services, it announced last Friday.

Not only will Internet Explorer 6 be hit, but also older versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. You will need to be running Firefox 3.0 or higher, Google Chrome 4.0 or higher and Safari 4.0 or higher.

many other companies have already stopped supporting older browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as browsers that are not supported by their own manufacturers,

Internet Explorer users will have to update to at least Internet Explorer 7 to be able to use web apps like Google Docs and Google Sites. Google have said they made the decision based on the fact that older browsers cant run the webefficiently, and didn’t mention anything to do with the recent China attacks, but no doubt this had some influence in their decision.

This may be a pain for some users, but realistically, they should have updated their browsers, particularly IE 6 which is over 10 years old! But hopefully it will provide a better, more secure web experience for us all.
