Is Microsoft’s Bing Going To Replace Google On The iPhone

Last time I checked, Microsoft and Apple weren’t the best of friends, but now in a change of heart between the two companies they seem to be sitting down and trying to strike out a deal which would see Microsoft’s Bing.com become the default search engine for the iPhone/iPod.

According to BusinessWeek

Apple is in talks with Microsoft to replace Google as the default search engine on its iPhone, according to two people familiar with the matter. The talks have been under way for weeks, say the people, who asked not to be named because the details have not been made public

But if we look back into the past we see that Apple and Microsoft have actually worked together before when it’s in each others benefit. For example, Microsoft made Microsoft Office for the Mac, and Apple made iTunes for the PC. It seems they both have a common enemy now, and it’s Google.

Google is becoming increasingly more powerful and popular and seem to have a foot in everything that goes on in the world these days. According to business week, it’s the rivalry between Apple and Google that has prompted this action

“Apple and Google know the other is their primary enemy,” says one of the people, who’s familiar with Apple’s thinking. “Microsoft is now a pawn in that battle.”

Google and Apple have been going head to head recently, with Google releasing a whole host of Android phones , as well as developing the Android market place. And Apple on the other hand recently acquired a mobile advertisement company, again competing directly with Google.

If these negotiations come to light, it could well mean that Bing becomes the default search engine for Apples Safari as well. And Microsoft could game some much needed market share from Google, but it will take a lot more than this to bring down the mighty Google empire.
