Apple Wants All Nokia Phones Banned

Nokia and Apple have been in a patent battles with each other for quite some time now, Nokia recently submitted a request to ban all Apple imports into the U.S.

Well now Apple has submitted a request to ban all Nokia imports into the U.S! At this rate there will be no mobile phones going into the U.S. Not to mention a shortage of iPod’s, Mac Books and iPhone’s.

This patent war, and now an attempt to ban each other from the U.S began when Nokia sued Apple for infringing on it’s patents for GSM, UMTS, and WiFi and later another patent infringement over cameras and touch screens. Apple then filed a counter suit accusing Nokia of copying technology inside the iPhone. Apple said Nokia is violating a range of patents, from real-time signal processing methods to list scrolling and document translation, scaling, and rotation on a touch-screen display.

In November it was revealed that Apple had surpassed Nokia in quarterly mobile phone profits, bringing in $1.6 billion from the iPhone, compared with Nokia’s $1.1 billion in cell phone profits.

Could Nokia be getting a bit jealous of Apple? The iPhone is clearly their main competitor, and what’s worse for Nokia is that one phone, threatens the hundreds of other handsets that Nokia has to offer.

But Nokia seem optimistic for their future

Yes, we have lost ground in the smartphone space over the past 18 months, but the decline has stopped and stablized in the second and third quarters of 2009,” Simonson – Nokia’s new mobile chief  told the India Times.

The new year will see [our] recovery in smartphones with the introduction of Maemo and the stabilization of the Symbian operating system, which by the way, continues to be the platform for the largest number of smartphones, globally,” Simonson added.

Either way, both Apple and Nokia are just being childish trying to implement a complete ban on all U.S import of each others products.
