Avatar & Modern Warfare 2 Join The Billionaires Club

For anything to be successful enough to earn $1 Billion dollars is quite impressive, but for not one, but two separate different forms of entertainment to reach the $1 Billion dollar mark, in the same year is something extra special.

And what better forms of entertainment to reach this 10 figure sum, no other than Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Avatar. On Wednesday, Activision announced that their controversial, yet brilliant game had broken the barrier after being on sale for just 2 months. Call Of Duty already claimed the Christmas number 1 spot as well as the fastest selling video game ever.

Around the same time, James Cameron’s blockbuster movie, “Avatar,” also smashed the 10 figure boundary and sales are still continuing strongly. It seems the 8 years it took to make Avatar were worth it for all those involved. Especially if you’re anyone at Fox, Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, or any of the other stakeholders in the mammoth movie.

We very rarely ever see anything in the Entertainment industry break the Billion dollar boundary, but it was Activision who did it most recently with Guitar Hero III as being the first game to ever cross the billion-dollar threshold almost a year ago to the day.

This is great news for the entertainment industry which has been witnessing decreased sales over the past year due to the economic downturn, but it still seems that users are still willing to fork out the $60 or so for a good game and what ever it costs to go the cinema.

So congratulations to Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Avatar for achieving such great success!
