Lenovo Ideapad U1 – A Tablet & Laptop In One

9 January 2010 View Comments

Thankfully more than just 3D TV’s have been announced at this years CES. Lenovo have come up with a rather interesting laptop. The Lenovo Ideapad U1 is a Laptop with a removal screen which then turns into a Tablet.

It’s a unique idea that I haven’t seen before and I think Lenovo are really onto something here. When closed it looks like any regular laptop, well a good looking one at that. When the screen is in place, it runs Windows 7 and has a Intel Core 2 Duo SU processor, 4 GB Ram, 128GB SSD, two USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, VGA, HDMI, 4-in-1 memory card reader, and a 1.3-Megapixel camera.

However once you take out the screen, the tablet changes OS to Linux. All you do is click out the screen and in under 3 seconds you can be using the touchscreen tablet. It has a 11.6-inch, capacitive multi touch screen with a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. it’s built around a six-panel interface, which can be customized with email, calendar, RSS, and social media widgets, and there’s a second four-panel screen with image, music, video, and e-reader widgets that’s especially finger friendly

The U1 is still being developed but first hands ons with the device are giving positive feedback. It’s hoped to be ready for production in June with a $999 price tag, not bad for a laptop and tablet.

Overall it’s a nice looking device, What do you think about it?
