iPhone On Vodafone UK – 14 January

21 December 2009 Comments

Vodafone have finally announced that the iPhone will be available on it’s network from the 14 of January 2010. This brings the total number of carriers of the iPhone in the UK to four.

Guy Laurence, chief executive of Vodafone UK, said that the company had been preparing its network for over a year to handle the introduction of the iPhone.

The cheapest tariff available is £30 a month for 24 months, plus additional handset charges ranging from £59 (iPhone 3G 8GB) to £239 (3GS 32GB). A 1GB data allowance is included, compared to Oranges 750mb. Vodafone and O2 both offer unlimited wifi use. Orange’s data limit includes connections to the internet via BT Open-Zone wifi. You also get unlimited Vodafone to Vodafone Calls with all packages as well as unlimited texts to all networks.

Orange and O2’s lowest tariffs are £29.36 and £34.26 respectively, and include a free iPhone 3G on a 24 month contract, but you’ll be forking out between £125 and £184.50 for a iPhone 3GS 16G depending on the length of your contract. It’s £149 for a iPhone 3GS 16GB on Vodafone’s cheapest 24 month contract of £30. Vodafone has also introduced a charge for customers wishing to use their iPhones as a modem – starting at £5 to download 500 MB.

Tesco mobile remain the cheapest with £20 per month in a 12 month contract, however you will be forking over £222 for the iPhone 3G. Tesco say that this shorter contract will allow customers to upgrade sooner instead of being tied into long 24 month contracts offered by the other carriers.

Since the rise of the iPhone and increased popularity of smartphone devices, there are growing concerns that mobile networks globally are struggling to cope with demand as more consumers choose internet-enabled smartphones and mobile dongles over fixed broadband deals.

So there’s not really a whole lot between the different packages, but at least there is plenty of options to choose from and I’m sure everyone will find a package that suits them.

What do you think of the price plans offered or the iPhone?
