While Apple continues to dominate in the smartphone and MP3 player market, they are also dominating in product searches. According to Hitwise, The Apple iPhone is the most searched product in the UK with 1.75 percent of all product searches and 14.01 percent of all mobile phone searches during the week ending December 5.
And the second most searched product? The Apple iPod Touch with 1.29 percent of all product searches. The smaller iPod Nano, placed 9th in the list with just 0.5 per cent of searches in the run up to Christmas.
Consumer electronic websites have seen a large increase in the number of visits in the run up to Christmas this year, with a total increase of 16.5 percent between October 2009 and November 2009. The largest increase of growth to electronic sites this year in the UK.
Searches for toys and hobbies reached their peak during the week ending December 5th, when they accounted for 13.6 percent of all online searches for products in the UK. Visits to UK electronic sites peaked week ending 5th December as well, a week later than last year, it seems consumers were holding out a bit longer to see if any bargains were to be had this year.
Microsoft seems to be winning the battle of the game consoles, with the Xbox 360 sitting 3rd with 1.24 per cent as the most searched product, ahead of the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Nintendo DS. Unsuprisingly Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the most searched for Video game with 0.70 per cent following it’s launch in November.
Mobile Phones were the most searched for product for the week ending December 5, with 14.4 percent of product searches. Toys and Hobbies – with thanks to Go Go Pets, Ben 10 and Lego – became the second most searched for product category with a 18.9 percent increase in searches over the month.
The third most searched for type of product was Video Games, a category which has also experienced a recent increase in popularity thanks to the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
