3D Blu-ray On Your PS3

While there hasn’t exactly been huge demand for 3D TV’s and movies at home, it seems the entertainment industry wants to push 3D technology out to us. The specification for 3D Blu-ray has been finalised and what’s even better is your PS3 will support it. All 3D blu-ray movies are also backwards compatible, which means you can watch them in 2D until you have got around to buying a 3D TV.

3D Blu-ray will display full high-definition 1080p video to each eye, encoded in the new Multiview Video Coding (MPEG4-MVC) codec and this is the extension currently supported by devices such as the PS3. So you can get all your Blu-ray DVDs in 3D, and watch them on your existing Blu-ray player or laptop, and once you get around to investing in a 3D TV, you will be instantly able to enjoy a HD 3D experience.

3D technology seems to be beginning to gather momentum, we recently had the news that Sky would be begin broadcasting the Premier league in 3D, and there is a rake of companies announcing plans for 3D TV’s for next year and we are also seeing a couple finding their way onto the market.
