Probably the most anticipated game of the year, “Call Of Duty – Modern Warfare 2″ has smashed the record for the most sales on the first day. The title previously held be Grand Theft Auto IV was well surpassed by COD 6 which managed an impressive 1.23 million units sold in the UK for approx £47, and between the USA and England, Activision estimate that nearly 4.7 Million copies of the game have been sold which equates to the a cool $310 Million, which was the previous record held by GTA IV worldwide.modern-warfare-2

Hundreds of gamers queued at 00:00 GMT on the 10 November around shops that would be selling it, eager to get their hands on a copy of the latest game in the Call Of Duty Series.

“These first day sales figures are astonishing and clear evidence that videogames are now mainstream in the UK,” said Michael Rawlinson, director general of the entertainment and leisure software publishers association (Elspa).

It seems video games are doing well in these tough economic times and some analyst predict that up to 10 Million copies of the game could be sold in the run up to Christmas, while Activision have more realistic expectations for 3 Million. Either way it’s an impressive feat.

I can’t think of any other game coming up soon that will have a chance of rivaling Call Of Duty’s sale figures, can you?
