Microsoft Bans Up To 1 Million Live Users

Have you been wondering why you suddenly can’t play your Xbox 360 online? Well are you one of many that have modified their Xbox’s to allow you to play illegal, pirated games? Microsoft have started clamping down on users who are using pirated copies of games on modified Xbox’s.

Microsoft released this statement when asked to comment by InformationWeek

All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live,

Microsoft have stated that modifying consoles is illegal and break the terms of service agreements. There have been varying reports as to the number of users that have been cut off. The BBC believes up to 600,000 users have been affected while Cnet think up to a Million. What ever the figure is I’m sure it’s affected many people, and if you get this message when you attempt to login “”Your console has been banned from Xbox”. It means you have been one of the users banned. You can still use your Xbox offline, but can not avail of online services.

Industry figures suggest that nearly £750 million has been lost by the gaming industry a year.

The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them

Microsoft have not said how they knew which consoles had been modified but it is suspected that with the release of Activisions ” Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 ” yesterday, the appearance of pirated copy’s of the game on the web may have prompted this move by Microsoft.
